Homemade cakes are easy to make and they’re all make pretty much the same way. You need some kind of flour, sweetener, fat, liquid, leavening agent, and maybe an egg or two – that’s it. Here is a list of super easy homemade cake recipes that use staples from your pantry.

Some of these recipes use garden ingredients, like parsnips, in a new way. If you like everything else in the recipe, just substitute the parsnips for carrots. Yes, it will be different but I think it would be quite good.

Some of the recipes call for raw sugar – you can easily substitute regular white granulated sugar. It won’t be quite as flavorful, but it will still be tasty.

If the recipe calls for freshly ground flour or a flour your not familiar with, like elkhorn, just use whatever wheat flour you have available. The end result may be a little dense or a little too flat and moist, but who knows you might find you enjoy the cake that way!

This is a great time to play in the kitchen, use what you have, and experiment with new things.
