Look what my children found in the hen house and had to bring in to show us. It’s a Texas rat snake and she took up residence in our barn/garden shed last summer. The kids named her Susan and we don’t mind her being in the barn but she needs to stay out of the hen house if she plans on staying here.

How do you know it's a "her"?

lol...we don't. My kids came up with the name and it just stuck.

Two thumbs up for respecting nature, identifying the species and not simply freaking out, and letting the snake live as she was meant to!

Well, as long as she stays out of the hen house, we'll get along just fine. If I had found her, I would have freaked out - but my boys and my husband don't.

I know, my husband loves snakes and has taught my children (and tried to teach me) how to identify them so that they aren't scared of them. I hope she stays out of the hen house, too.
By the way, your photography is beautiful! I loved looking through your blog. I think your little pink tutu and purple sparkly shoe girl and my little one would bet along nicely.
