Yesterday we went to pick grapefruit from our friend’s house. These are the most amazing grapefruit…ever. You can see how tall the tree is here.
The fun thing about this tree is that this couple grew it from seed about 20 years ago. Then about 6 or 7 years ago it started producing grapefruit – the most amazing grapefruit, just in case you missed that.
I’ve often thought about what our place will look like in 20 years. I’ve thought about how amazing our little orchards will be and how we’ll be able to bless others with the abundance. You might not know, but we’ve only been here 2 years and it’s our 14th address in our 23 years of marriage. It’s nice to think of this place as our last address. To think of all the possibilities of the next 20 years.
So, what are we going to do with the 3 large boxes of grapefruit?
Well, for starters, I’m going to peel some and have it available in a bowl in the refrigerator at all times. Here’s my favorite way to prep a grapefruit. It takes just a few minutes.
The other thing we’ll do is make a grapefruit cake. Even my kids who don’t like grapefruit like this cake.
I will also can a few pints. I’m not big on canning citrus but it’s always nice to have a few pints on hand.
What is your favorite way to eat grapefruit?
