sprucing up the girls' room

Yesterday Phoebe and I spent some time putting up new curtains in the girls' room.  We still have boxes to unpack and organizing to do from our move.  But one of the things that most wanted to do in there was get rid of the drapes.

They don't look to bad in this picture but...

...here they are in all their "glory".

Part of the reason we haven't done anything with them is because at first Phoebe liked them...actually she liked the pull cord.  She asked if I could just make some curtains that could go on the drapery hardware.  Yes, I can.

A few months later, as most tweens do, she changed her mind and didn't like the pull cord any more.

Right before graduation I hit the mother load of clearance curtains at Walmart.  They had panels on clearance for $3-$6 each.  So I snatched up ones that would work in our living room, master bedroom and the younger boys room.  And declared that store bought curtains are nice.  (no matter what I used to say)  While on our hunt Phoebe found a lonely lime green and white sheer panel.  We bought it.  Then we had to order another one online...only online they are sold in packs of 2 - not 1.

It's hard to tell in the picture but the green is really a cool lime teenager green.

But they're sheer so we pulled out the "curtain box" and found two white floor length curtains I had made (we can't remember for which house...) and hung them on a tension rod.  Phoebe wanted tie backs so we took some ribbon that we used on Esther's pillowcase dress and used a couple of small nails to nail it to the inside of the window frame....don't tell Carl.

So now we have tie backs for the lining.

We got a new rod and clips that I found on clearance to hang the sheers.

It's so much brighter and more age appropriate.

We're still in discussion about the walls.  Maybe a light lavender paint color?

  2. Thanks, Christy. We're doing great. Certainly enjoying our summer. We're hoping to make a duvet this summer for the bed. We're trying to find just the right amount of lime green in the fabric. I can't wait for you guys to come down for a visit this fall.
